Jon Coyles – MLB’s Drug, Health and Safety Programs

Jon Coyles works for one of the greatest sporting organizations in the world, Major League Baseball (MLB).  He currently serves as the Vice President of Drug, Health and Safety Programs for MLB.

As a former athlete himself, Jon has always been passionate about sports and making sure they’re played the right way, without cheating.  In this podcast you’re going to hear about Jon’s early life in Law School, where he was during the 2005 MLB Congressional Hearings, and his career path as a lawyer which took him to MLB HQ where he now oversees the world’s strongest anti-doping and testing program in all of professional sports.

You’re going to hear about how MLB’s Commissioners Office collectively bargains with MLB’s Player’s Association on a number of topics including their powerful drug testing program.   Since the 2005 Congressional Hearings both MLB and MLB’s players wanted stronger penalties for those who cheat the game and you will hear how the program has gotten stronger over the years.

One of the questions that we pose to Jon is “do you think we will ever see a life time ban for a first offence positive drug test?”  Be sure to tune in to hear what he has to say.
