Energy Drink Awareness - Cassondra Reynolds
“My husband of 10 years went into cardiac arrest while in bed. I woke up to hear him gasping. I thought in that moment, ‘Is this actually happening? How is this happening?’ He was only 41 years old, very healthy, fit, worked out every day and had just had a full physical a month prior.” –Cassondra Reynolds
Since 1987 when energy drinks were introduced into the market their popularity has exploded. In 2018 the energy drink market was a $53 Billion dollar industry and it’s growing. These drinks are consumed by everyone from young middle school students to adults, but many people are unaware just how dangerous they could potentially be.
In this episode we’re going to be talking with Cassondra Reynolds who is the Executive Director of The Awareness Project (TAP), which is a non-profit organization she has formed to raise awareness about the dangers of energy drinks and pre-workout dietary supplements. Following the loss of her husband John Reynolds, she formed TAP to make others aware about the potential dangers of consuming energy drinks and pre-workout supplements.
During the interview you will hear from an expert in the world of nutrition and our very own Sports Dietitian, Tavis Piattoly. He will give us more information as to why we should be concerned about these projects that are loaded with stimulants but also some advice on how we can get more energy through sleep and proper nutrition.
